Every lidded jar is carefully selected in Japan and comes in a variety of colours, shapes and patterns. All jars are food-safe and can be confidently used for serving meals and storing food.

Function Meets Aesthetics

Beyond their practical use, the jars can also hold food, jewellery or small keepsakes. They pair beautifully with our Japanese bowls, sharing the same timeless aesthetic. Their elegant design makes them a natural decorative element in your kitchen, bathroom or windowsill – a touch of Japanese culture at home.

Ottocento – Italian Storage Jars

Beautiful Ottocento Earthenware Jars, handmade in Deruta, Italy. Inspired by traditional Italian storage jars, which have long been used in the kitchen to store dry goods and sweets.

The deep chocolate-brown glaze is decorated with cream-coloured splashes, giving each jar its own vibrant and unique look. The elegant shape and matching lid make the jars both practical and decorative.

Create a Unique Interior

Whether you prefer a minimalist expression or a more playful style, Studio Hafnia’s curated selection makes it easy to bring Japanese aesthetics into your home.

Ceramic Jars with Lids – for Kitchen, Bathroom and Storage

A ceramic jar with a lid is one of the most useful pieces in a home: it keeps the contents dry and dust-free, it is made to be left out on the counter, and it looks as good full as empty. Our ceramic jars with lids range from small bonbonniere for serving and sweets to the 28 cm tall Ottocento jar for dry goods – so there is a size for spices, tea, coffee, salt and sugar.

In the bathroom the same jar works just as well for cotton pads, hair ties and small pieces of jewellery. Glazed ceramic absorbs neither odour nor colour from what you store, and the lid keeps out dust and light.

Alongside the ceramics we also carry a glass bonbonnière – ‘Josephine’ by Kris Van Assche for Serax – if you would rather see the contents.

Frequently Asked Questions About Lidded Jars

Is a ceramic jar with a lid food-safe?
Yes. All our Japanese lidded jars are food-safe and can be used with confidence for food, serving and food storage.

What can you store in a lidded jar?
Salt, sugar, spices, tea, coffee, jam and sweets in the kitchen – and jewellery, hair ties or small keepsakes in the hallway, bedroom and bathroom.

Are the jars dishwasher safe?
We recommend hand washing. The jars are handmade and hand-glazed, and hand washing preserves the gloss and colour of the glaze for longest.

Where are the jars made?
The Japanese lidded jars are handmade in Japan. The Ottocento jars are handmade in earthenware in Deruta, Italy.

Are two jars exactly alike?
No. Each jar is handmade and hand-painted, so small variations in colour, shape and pattern occur. That is part of the character, not a flaw.
