Handwoven baskets in rattan, jute and bamboo

Our handwoven baskets are made by hand from rattan, jute and bamboo. A rattan basket comes both oval and round and in three sizes, so it can stand alone or nest inside the others. The large jute basket from Maison Bengal measures 55 x 40 cm and holds blankets, cushions and laundry. A bamboo basket with a handle is the lightest of them and comes along into the garden.

Because the baskets are woven by hand, no two are exactly alike. Small differences in weave and colour are part of the craft.

Japanese baskets and wooden trays

For the Japanese table we have trays in ash wood (tamo), handmade in Japan with built-in handles and a non-slip surface that keeps the cup in place. They come in three sizes and each has its own grain.

How do I care for a woven basket?
Wipe with a slightly damp cloth and let it dry completely. Avoid soaking it and avoid direct heat, which can dry out the weave.

Yes, the wooden trays and steel baskets are made for serving. Wipe them clean after use rather than putting them in the dishwasher.
