A self-adhesive plate hanger that lets you hang plates, dishes and ceramic plaques directly on the wall, without wire that grips the rim and shows from the front. The small yellow disc is glued to the back, so all you see is the plate. It is made in England to the same principle for more than 50 years.
The adhesive is activated with water, and the hanger can be taken off again by placing the plate in lukewarm water, without harming the glaze, the decoration or the backstamps. That makes it safe to use on heirlooms and collector's plates.
What does it work on?
The disc bonds to glazed ceramics, porcelain, stoneware, earthenware and glass, and to wood and hardboard, so it also works for smaller pictures and wooden plaques. On rough, unglazed clay and terracotta the bond is less reliable. It must not hang in a bathroom, utility room or conservatory: moisture can soften the adhesive and release the disc.
How to fit it
Clean the back of the plate with scouring cream and let it dry. Work a little water into the adhesive, leave the disc for 5-10 minutes until it turns tacky, and press it firmly into place. Leave it to dry overnight, then pull on the ring before hanging the plate. The full instructions are printed on the packaging.
Frequently asked questions
Can the hanger be removed again?
Yes. Place the plate in lukewarm water until the adhesive releases, without ruining the plate or its marks.
What does the ring hang on?
An ordinary picture hook or screw. On plasterboard or masonry, use a wall plug.
Is it better than a wire spring hanger?
For decorated and older plates, yes. Wire hangers grip the rim, can wear the glaze and are visible from the front.
