The Andon Triangle is a portable lantern that translates the classic Japanese andon into a soft, triangular silhouette. Light filters through handmade Mino washi paper, filling the room with a calm, muted glow – completely free of cords and outlets. Designed by Daisaku Chou for Asano Shoten in Gifu, where the family has been folding paper lanterns for over a hundred years. Changing the batteries is easy: simply lift the top of the small box that sits around the bulb.

Asano is a Japanese family workshop in Gifu, where paper lanterns have been folded and assembled by hand for over a hundred years. Today Asano creates timeless design icons in washi paper in collaboration with some of Japan’s most distinctive designers – including Shigeru Uchida (Paper Moon and Nature) and Daisaku Chou (Andon Triangle).
