Vintage Murano lamp base in clear azure blue glass with an optic swirl pattern, mouth-blown in Italy. The body is egg-shaped and swells softly at the middle, and the twisting ribs catch the light so the blue shifts between deep cobalt and almost turquoise depending on the angle.
The lamp has two light sources. At the top sits a brass collar with a large socket (E27) and a shade ring, so you choose the shade yourself and give the lamp exactly the look you want. Inside the glass body there is a second, smaller socket, so the glass can be lit from within – on its own it gives a soft blue glow that traces the swirl pattern in the dark.
The cord is gold-coloured with an inline switch and a white EU plug, and it enters at the top by the socket rather than at the bottom. This is typical of lamp bases from the period, but it does mean the cord runs visibly down the side of the glass. The lamp therefore looks its best placed against a wall, or with its back to the room.
The lamp base is sold without a shade. It is in good vintage condition with signs of age, and the brass has a light patina. Handmade Murano glass may have small variations in shape, pattern and surface – these are not flaws, but the very craftsmanship that makes each piece unique.
