A tall and characterful vintage Kokeshi doll from Japan, handcrafted in wood and bearing the marks of time. The doll has a serene and friendly expression with finely painted features – closed smiling eyes, arched brows, and small red lips. Her black hair is adorned with red arcs on the sides and a small knot at the back.
The front of the body features a vertical row of red flowers with green centers, hand-painted in a stylized, almost abstract form. The back is unpainted, showing only the grain of the wood and pronounced signs of age – fading, discoloration, and surface irregularities. The artist’s signature appears in black ink on the base.
This piece carries visible wear and patina throughout, giving it a uniquely rustic and poetic appeal. A one-of-a-kind item for collectors and lovers of traditional Japanese craftsmanship.
